(Edited by: Phil Barber, 20th December 2008 12:17PM)

15/12/2008, played at Swanton Morley Village Hall.
Swanton Morley I lost to Billingford 2-8.
A convincing win for Billingford moves them up to second in the table, where the top four teams are all looking close. Connor Aaron's second league outing for Swanton saw him starting to develop a useful forehand drive, and Billingford's Peter Fuller lost his 100% record to Robert Richardson, losing out 11-5 in the fifth.

15/12/2008, played at Swanton Morley Village Hall.
Swanton Morley H beat Bintree C 8-2.
A credit to the Bintree set-up, the Hodges sisters improve each season. Although they didn't win any games this time round they're getting closer to the more established players and it won't be too long......

Match Report - Toftwood v Bintree B

(Edited by: Phil Barber, 18th December 2008 12:07PM)

11/12/2008, played at Toftwood Junior School.
Toftwood lost to Bintree B 3-7.
A good win by the visitors with a full house by Charles Armstrong the highlight of the evening, though a 5 set victory by Matthew Hubbard over his nemesis, Trevor Theobald, will also have resulted in much relief and satisfaction. One match during the night to pick out in particular was the fight back from 2 games down by the home sides John Loveday to secure a victory over Matthew Hubbard. John never ceases to amaze! The games were well fought with some good table tennis to boot. A defensive style was much in evidence during the night but a point is a point, however it is won!

66 B get clubbed as Beetley go second

(Edited by: Phil Barber, 16th December 2008 09:53AM)

Well no one ever said you'd be getting professional journalistic headlines.
Beetley beat 66 Club B 8-2 in an enjoyable evening's table tennis which saw 3 games going to the 5th set and another 4 going to the 4th. The hard hitting Zoe Watters was unlucky not to take Hilary Howlett to a deciding set, eventually losing out from deuce in the 4th. Paul Elsegood came close to adding a further point to the visitor's tally but ended up losing out to Keith Meader 14-12 in the fifth set. 66 B's wins came with an Andy Cullum 11-9 fifth set win over Keith Meader, and plugging away to the end Andy and Zoe shaded the doubles 11-7 in the fifth against Howlett and Meader.

Dereham League Annual Championships - Venue Change

Posted by: Phil Barber, 13th December 2008 11:15AM

Handbooks show the above as taking place at Swanton Morley Village Hall on 29 March. Unfortunately the stage has become a permanent fixture at Swanton Morley, which means the venue is not now suitable to hold the championships.

We will therefore be holding the championships at Watton Sports Centre, where facilities will in fact be better for us - more tables, food and drink available, a bar, changing rooms.

This is an advance notice to get the word around - we will be in touch with all clubs with full details in the new year.

(Edited by: Phil Barber, 13th December 2008 10:46AM)

05/12/2008, played at Fakenham Conservative Club.
Conservatives beat Toftwood 8-2.
The match card shows six out of the ten games settled in 3 straight legs, which really gives a false impression of the gameplay overall, which produced excellent table tennis from both sides in a good sporting fashion.

Match Report - Bintree A v Beetley

(Edited by: Phil Barber, 8th December 2008 12:15PM)

03/12/2008, played at Wood Norton Village Hall.
Bintree A lost to Beetley 2-8.
A great win for Chris Riseborough over Keith Meader, 11-8 in the fifth, and a Chris/Mark Bishop doubles win three straight against Colin Tucker and Keith Meader earned two points for Bintree A. Mark Bishop came close in singles games but lost out in the fifth to both Colin and Keith. Beetley's win moves them to second spot in the league.

Swanton Morley C beat Swanton F 9-0 in the last of the second round matches. The complete draw for Round 3 matches (to be played before Christmas, ho ho) is as follows:-

Billingford v Bradenham
Swanton Morley B v Beetley
Bintree A v The Mission
Swanton Morley C v Swanton Morley A

Swanton Morley H v Swanton Morley I

(Edited by: Phil Barber, 8th December 2008 11:48AM)

01/12/2008, played at Swanton Morley Village Hall.
Swanton Morley H beat Swanton Morley I 7-3.
Swanton I captain Robert Richardson has certainly made his mark on his return to the Dereham table tennis scene after several years' absence. He scored all his team's points with a well deserved maximum against the H team, but a brace apiece for Steve Westbury, Martin Sneesby and Richard Norman sealed the win for Swanton H.

(Edited by: Phil Barber, 8th December 2008 11:39AM)

Swanton F pulled further away at the top of the table with a 7-3 win against Bintree B in this meeting between the top two. Derek Sidgwick was unbeaten in singles and doubles for Swanton.

Match Report - RYBS v Swanton Morley D

(Edited by: Phil Barber, 5th December 2008 11:34AM)

04/12/2008, played at Beetley Village Hall.
RYBS beat Swanton Morley D 7-3.
A tough lower end of the table match looked to be heading for a draw at 3-3 after six games, but RYBS pulled away in the latter stages, Phil Barber coming back from two down to win over Adrian Cox, and Joe Barber turning in a fine display to beat David Appleby in three straight. A close five set doubles also went the way of the home team to seal the win.

Match Report - Swanton Morley B v Swanton Morley C

Posted by: Phil Barber, 5th December 2008 11:23AM
(Edited by: Phil Barber, 5th December 2008 11:24AM)

26/11/2008, played at Swanton Morley Village Hall.
Swanton Morley B beat Swanton Morley C 9-1.
Seamus Chambers' win for Swanton C over Don Dixon prevented Swanton B bagging all the points, although four other games needed a fifth leg to decide the outcome, all these going the way of the B team.

Match Report - Beetley v Swanton Morley A

(Edited by: Phil Barber, 3rd December 2008 10:44AM)

28/11/2008, played at Beetley Village Hall.
Beetley beat Swanton Morley A 7-3.
A good hard fought and sporting match, although Swanton were hampered by Rick Edwards carrying an injury. Two deuce in the fifth wins for Beetley, Hilary Howlett overcoming Paul Pegg 13-11 and an excellent Colin (Grumps) Tucker win 12-10 over Paul Durrant. An excellent evening overall, with both teams enjoying a friendlyish pint (or two) in The Swan afterwards.

Match Report - Toftwood v Swanton Morley H

Posted by: Phil Barber, 3rd December 2008 10:29AM
(Edited by: Phil Barber, 3rd December 2008 10:30AM)

27/11/2008, played at Toftwood Junior School.
Toftwood beat Swanton Morley H 6-4.
A fairly even and well contested match between these two former Division 3 teams, with the home team just taking the honours. Two matches went the full length with Digby Saunders, who recorded the only 100% of the evening, edging out Steve Westbury and the home sides Trevor Theobald coming back from 2-1 down to beat Richard Norman 3-2. A draw on the night was on the cards once the Doubles got under way with the home side first going down 0-1 then 1-2. Digging deep though resulted in a push to the end and victory for the home side 3-2. Was it Home advantage that made all the difference? We will have to wait and see in the return leg!!
